Confessions of a Personal Trainer | L Style G Style

Fitness, nutrition, workout, resistance training, personal training, boot camp?all key phrases that I use literally hundreds of times throughout the day. However, between the hours of 8 pm and 6 am, my lululemon attire and ball cap lie neatly retired in the drawer labeled ?trainer clothes.? At the end of the day, I morph from eating, breathing, and thinking fitness into a normal human being. Just like you, I have my bad habits, temptations, and obstacles when it comes to health and fitness. I wasn?t born on the Island of Perfect Bodies and No Taste Buds. It?s true ? I struggle. I have to watch what I eat, understand the consequences of social parties, and drag myself to the gym even when I don?t want to! OK, that?s a lie, I don?t go to the gym if I don?t want to. I?m in a gym all day long, isn?t that enough?!

I?m sure you?re asking yourself, ?Why is this trainer, the expert on fitness, the guy who?s supposed to be amped about working out and lead a perfect lifestyle, disclosing that he, too, sometimes stumbles in his quest to stay fit?? It?s simple; I tell you about my own imperfections because I can relate to you. I understand the struggles. In seven years of training, I have worked with people of all shapes and sizes, ages, and professions, with countless limitations and unique personalities. Each brought a new challenge and a greater understanding of what it means to be ?fit and healthy.? Being able to build rapport and develop an organic relationship is largely based on relatability and a willingness to embrace another?s perspective. A a fitness professional, I must be able to peel back the layers of self doubt, fears, insecurities and empower my clients through knowledge and accountability.

Keep in mind that your trainer has feelings too; he or she has been there at some point in his or her life and has had to overcome his or her own adversities. I?m blessed to have an amazing co-owner, Joey, and wonderful staff that all have a variety of life experiences. To share a relevant story ? four years ago a young lady named Caroline walked though our doors needing to get in shape. After two years of hard work, over 100 lbs lost, and a new perspective on life, she joined our team and is now our lead trainer. This is just one of many stories from our HEAT family of trainers. Diversity is our foundation, relatability is our motto, fitness is our journey. We look forward to educating, inspiring, and keeping you accountable from within the pages of this blog. Enjoy!
